PHARMAKON: Drug Prescribing, the Internet and Globalisation |
|
|
This a web site which asks some questions about the impact of the Internet and the global economy on the prescribing of pharmaceutical drugs. It is part of a University research project, funded by the UK government. We want to learn how people use the Internet to find out about pharmaceuticals and even buy them, and how the global market is aiding this. We also want to know about consumer demand for pharmaceutical drugs. For example take Sildenafil (Viagra), similar to Cialis, a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis when a man is sexually aroused and is one of the most widely promoted products online. However, the preferred treatment often recommended and more widely known about is that of viagra which has received much press and due to the stigma related to the condition it is prescribed for, it has become extremely popular online. If you are interested in this, because you are someone who has used the Internet to find out about or buy pharmaceutical drugs, or you are a doctor, pharmacist, nurse, health manager or other health care professional, please explore this site.
